For Immediate Release:

On August 11-15, 2008 the FBI and Indiana Drug Enforcement Association will sponsor a Comprehensive Integrated Training Exercise (CITE) held in Indianapolis. This exercise will bring together over 300 fire service, law enforcement, hazardous materials and public health specialists in a conference to better understand and coordinate preparedness in the event of weapons of mass destruction disaster.

As part of this exercise, on Thursday, August 14, 2008, the Indianapolis Office of the FBI will host an "Improvised Explosives and Overseas Threat Awareness" demonstration. This demonstration, which will begin at 2:00 pm and run for approximately 60 to 90 minutes, will take place at the Southside Landfill located at 2561 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Attendees will witness the detonation of a variety of improvised explosives, most of which can be mixed using common household chemicals. This demonstration is designed to underscore the potential danger of these chemicals, both in the hands of terrorists as well as juvenile experimenters. There will also be a demonstration of the weapons and tactics used by insurgents against U.S. interests around the world. Attendees will witness the effects of a variety of terrorist weapons, to include suicide bomb devices, roadside bombs and explosively formed projectiles.

The Southside Landfill is located on the southwest side of Indianapolis, at the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Warman Avenue. Attendees are requested to enter the Landfill off of Kentucky Avenue and follow the signs to the Visitor’s Center. Once there, an escort will lead you to the training site. The media is asked to arrive no later than 1:15 pm to insure proper placement of equipment prior to the demonstration.
