FBI ESTABLISHES PUBLIC CORRUPTION AND
MORTGAGE FRAUD HOTLINES IN NORTHERN DISTRICT

Michael S. Welch, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Indianapolis Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today the establishment of two hotlines which serve to receive complaints from the public regarding public corruption and mortgage fraud matters.

Public Corruption is the FBI's top criminal investigative priority and is the fourth overall investigative priority. Many of our investigations begin with tips from the public. This hotline is designed to make it easier for the public to report public corruption.

The FBI views mortgage fraud as a significant and growing crime problem and an area of concern. "We are constantly adapting our investigative techniques to combat mortgage fraud since criminals are always looking for new ways to exploit vulnerabilities and devise new schemes to defraud", stated SAC Welch.

Anyone with information concerning mortgage fraud or public corruption is asked to call the following numbers:

Mortgage Fraud: 219-650-6279
Public Corruption: 219-650-6230

Contact: Special Agent Wendy A. Osborne, FBI Indianapolis, (317) 639-3301.
