Michael S. Welch, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Indianapolis Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Jeff McKinley, Division President, Clear Channel Outdoor - Indianapolis, are pleased to announce a newly formed public safety partnership involving the innovative use of electronic billboard technology. As of today, the Clear Channel Outdoor will begin use of its Indianapolis electronic billboard to display “wanted” messages featuring photographs of four subjects sought by the FBI in connection with a federal drug trafficking conspiracy. The digital billboard is located in a high-traffic area adjacent to Interstate 70 West, one mile east of State Road 267, in Plainfield, Indiana. Interstate 70 is the major commuter route between Indianapolis and rapidly growing west-side communities, including Plainfield and Mooresville. This initiative is made possible through a partnership with Clear Channel Outdoor advertising company, which is providing the space as a public service. The use of electronic billboards will enable the FBI to highlight wanted subjects in a given geographic area as well as provide the public with timely information regarding time-sensitive criminal activity such as child abduction or an escaped prisoner. “The FBI and the Indianapolis area are both fortunate to have this partnership with Clear Channel. Clear Channel understands the critical importance of cooperation from the public in combating crime and generously donate their technology to help make this a safer community,” said SAC Michael Welch. Added Clear Channel’s Jeff McKinley: “It’s our pleasure to work with the FBI to help inform the general public of immediate, time-sensitive criminal activity in the Indianapolis area. Together we’ll be able to react to real-world events and—within minutes—distribute relevant information directly to the public. Currently, we’re displaying the featured fugitives on our I-70 West display and they will be added to our newest digital location on State Road 67 upon its completion in the next week or so.” 1 of 2 Digital billboards display static messages that resemble standard printed billboards when viewed but also allow advertisers to changes messages throughout the course of a day.
