$5,000 REWARD OFFERED IN SEARCH FOR UNKNOWN BANK ROBBERS

Michael S. Welch, Special Agent in Charge of the Indianapolis Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that a reward of $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of individuals responsible for robbing three banks in northwest Indiana.

On October 22, 2007, at approximately 9:10 a.m., two black males, dressed in dark-colored "hoodies", robbed the Harris Bank located at 7227 Calumet Avenue, Hammond, Indiana, of an undisclosed amount of United States currency. The robbers immediately confronted an armed security guard. The guard was subsequently disarmed, handcuffed and ordered to the ground.

On November 8, 2007, at approximately 10:00 a.m., four black males robbed the Harris Bank located at 6001 East Melton Road, Gary, Indiana. One of the subjects, armed with a pistol, approached and disarmed the security guard.

On November 9, 2007, at approximately 11:00 a.m., four black males robbed the Citizens Financial Bank located at 1720-45th Avenue, Munster, Indiana.

During the commission of all three bank robberies, the subjects were dressed in dark-colored "hoodies" and wore gloves. The subjects also brandished semi-automatic handguns during the robberies. Based upon the modus operandi of the subjects, it is believed that all three bank robberies were committed by the same individuals.

The subjects should be considered Armed and Dangerous. Anyone with information regarding these subjects is asked to call the Merrillville FBI at (219) 769-3719 or the Gang Response Investigative Team (GRIT) Office at (219) 885-1055.
