Federal Prisoner Sentenced to 15 Years
for Assault of Federal Corrections Officer
INDIANAPOLIS—Anthony L. Vaughn, 35, Federal Correctional Complex, Terre Haute,
was sentenced to an additional 15 years in prison today by U.S. District Court Judge Larry J.
McKinney, announced Timothy M. Morrison, United States Attorney for the Southern District of
Indiana. Vaughn pled guilty to aggravated assault of a federal corrections officer after a joint
investigation by the FBI and Federal Bureau of Prisons.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney James M. Warden, who prosecuted the case for the
government, on April 23, 2009, Vaughn, apparently upset because the officer asked him to stop
prohibited activities, threatened and then attacked the officer with an illegal, homemade knifelike
weapon. The officer was stabbed at least seven times and suffered numerous stab wounds to
the head and neck, but will recover.
Vaughn’s sentence will be served after completion of his current sentence for conspiracy
to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. Judge McKinney also imposed a supervised release
period of an additional three years to be served after Vaughn’s release from prison.
