BANK TELLER SENTENCED FOR EMBEZZLEMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Timothy M. Morrison, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana,
announced that SARAH WATSON, 30, formerly of Petersburg, Indiana, was sentenced to 4
months imprisonment today by U.S. District Judge Richard L. Young following her guilty plea to
embezzlement by a bank employee. This case was the result of a investigation by the Federal
Bureau of Investigation.
WATSON admitted that between January 1, 2004 and May 31, 2007, she stole excess
cash from the teller vault while working for the Otwell, Indiana, branch of Citizens Bank.
WATSON concealed the theft by making false entries in the teller vault balance sheet she was
responsible for maintaining.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd S. Shellenbarger, who prosecuted the case for
the government, Judge Young also imposed 3 years supervised release following WATSON’s
release from imprisonment. For the first 4 months of her supervised release, WATSON must
reside in a community corrections facility. WATSON paid restitution to the bank in the amount
of $61,000 before she was sentenced.
