JASPER MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS
FOR DISTRIBUTION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
PRESS RELEASE
Timothy M. Morrison, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced that BRADLEY E. MCCOLLOM, 43, of Jasper, Indiana, was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment late yesterday by U.S. District Judge Richard L. Young following his guilty plea to distribution, receipt and possession child pornography. This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
MCCOLLOM admitted that he distributed sexually explicit images of minors to an undercover FBI agent in Minnesota using the internet on July 27, 2007. A search of MCCOLLOM’s Jasper, Indiana, home and his computer resulted in the discovery of evidence that he had been receiving sexually explicit material involving minors using file sharing software to download the material. MCCOLLOM also provided investigator’s with seven DVD data storage disks that contained a substantial number of images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. MCCOLLOM admitted that he possessed more than 600 sexually explicit images of minors on these disks.
This case was brought as a part of Project Safe Childhood. In February 2006, the Department of Justice launched Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood uses federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd S. Shellenbarger, who prosecuted the case for the government, Judge Young also imposed lifetime supervised release following MCCOLLOM’s release from imprisonment. During the period of supervised release, MCCOLLOM must participate in a treatment program for sex offenders and register as a sex offender.
