LOUISVILLE MAN INDICTED IN THREE JEFFERSONVILLE ARMED BANK ROBBERIES

PRESS RELEASE

 

Susan W. Brooks, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced that RALPH W. CAIN, 39, of Louisville, Kentucky, was indicted by a federal grand jury sitting in Indianapolis for three counts of armed bank robbery and three counts of use of a weapon during a crime of violence, in connection with three Jeffersonville, Indiana, bank robberies occurring in December, 2005 and January, 2006. The indictment followed an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Jeffersonville Police Department, and Louisville Police Department.

The indictment alleges that on December 29, 2005, CAIN entered the JPMorgan Chase Bank, National Association located at 2501 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville, Indiana, armed with a firearm and took money in possession of JPMorgan Chase Bank. The indictment further

alleges that on January 4, 2006, CAIN, armed with a firearm, entered Regions Bank located at 1401 Spring Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana, and took money in possession of Regions Bank. Finally, the indictment alleges that on January 18, 2006, CAIN entered PNC Bank, National Association, located at 3828 Hamburg Pike, Jeffersonville, Indiana, armed with a firearm and took money in possession of PNC Bank. In each of these robberies CAIN allegedly brandished a firearm.

According to Assistant United States Attorney James M. Warden, who is prosecuting the case for the government, CAIN faces a maximum possible prison sentence of 25 years and a maximum possible fine of $250,000 for each of the 3 counts of armed bank robbery. CAIN also faces a possible prison sentence of 57 years for the 3 counts of using a weapon during a crime of violence, which would be served consecutively to any imprisonment imposed for the bank robberies. A hearing will be scheduled before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in New Albany, Indiana.

The indictment is an allegation only, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at trial or by guilty plea.
