CURRY BROTHERS INDICTED IN FOUR ARMED BANK
ROBBERIES WHERE LOSS EXCEEDS $1 MILLION
PRESS RELEASE
Susan W. Brooks, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced that DANIEL W. CURRY, 60, of Bloomington, Indiana, and his brother, ARTHUR J. CURRY, 58, of Greensboro, North Carolina were indicted by a federal grand jury sitting in Indianapolis with four counts of armed bank robbery and four counts of using a weapon during a crime of violence, following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Safe Streets Task Force.
The indictment alleges that on January 19, 2006, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY entered the Fifth Third Bank located at 1451 Fort Harrison Road, Terre Haute, Indiana, wearing bulky winter clothing and each carrying handgun took about $225,000 in the possession of Fifth Third Bank. It is further alleged that during the armed robbery, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY brandished a firearm.
The indictment further alleges that on December 9, 2005, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY entered the Regions Bank located at 3545 South Lafountain Street, Kokomo, Indiana, wearing heavy winter clothing and each carrying a handgun took about $80,000 in the possession of Regions Bank. It is further alleged that during the armed robbery, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY brandished a firearm.
The indictment further alleges that on February 9, 2005, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY entered the Old National Bank located at 2429 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, wearing hooded sweatshirts, fake wigs and beards or mustaches and each carrying a handgun took about $394,000 in the possession of Old National Bank. It is further alleged that during the armed robbery, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY brandished a firearm.
The indictment further alleges that on April 9, 2003, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY entered the Terre Haute First National Bank located at 3005 South Seventh Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, wearing hooded sweatshirts, fake mustaches, and each carrying a handgun took about $301,000 in the possession of Terre Haute First National Bank. It is further alleged that during the armed robbery, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY brandished a firearm.
During the investigation, a search of DANIEL W. CURRY’s storage locker located in Martinsville, Indiana, revealed red-dye stained money, money wrapped in Fifth Third Bank and Regions Bank-Kokomo wrappers, a silver handgun with red-dye stains, a stolen red Neon Dodge and various disguises such as, sunglasses, ski masks, hats, artificial facial hair, and wigs
During the investigation, a search of ARTHUR J. CURRY’s residence disclosed $88,000
in cash, much of it covered in red-dye stains, and various disguises, such as ski masks, hats, and
wigs.
According to Assistant United States Attorney James M. Warden, who is prosecuting the case for the government, DANIEL W. CURRY and ARTHUR J. CURRY each face a maximum possible prison sentence of 25 years and a maximum possible fine of $250,000 for each count of armed bank robbery and an additional possible prison sentence of not less than 82 years for the counts of using a weapon during a crime of violence. An initial hearing will be scheduled before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Terre Haute.
The indictment is an allegation only, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless
and until proven guilty at trial or by guilty plea.
